Desperate to play GTA 6 before GTA 6? Well, the mod bringing its map to GTA 5 is now “done” and out in non-PS2 graphics form
For a little while now, a GTA fan has been working on something that’s pretty exciting folks who’re dedicating a massive amount of their time to eagerly anticipating GTA 6’s arrival. It’s a mod that re-creates what we’ve seen of the map so far in GTA 5, and I bring good news – it’s now been released in a form that actually looks somewhat like the full game might.
YouTuber Dark Space has been working on this map mod – now dubbed “Project Vice” since last year – having shared some work-in-progress shots of Vice Beach back in January that looked pretty damn impressive.
Now, they’ve released versions of the mod for the single player of both versions of GTA 5 currently available on PC – the Legacy edition, and the recently released Enhanced edition. And, from what they’ve shown off in their latest video, this iteration of the mod looks to bring it up to properly-textured form, rather than just letting you run around a work-in-progress map rendered in kinda PS1 GTA 6 quality.
“The playable GTA 6 map is finally here and ready to explore,” they wrote in the description of this video, which also features a chat with one of the modders behind the Liverty City Preservation Project mod that was taken down earlier this year, “Now it’s time to feature it on your TV cause it’s done, and it’s yours now.”
While, as you’d expect, Dark Space’s map “very basic” compared to whatever the map of the actual GTA 6 will look like – for example, the modder’s used a totally flat landmass and made a lot of the buildings simply by repurposing ones from vanilla GTA 5 – they suggest that it’s at least good for getting an idea of the kind of scale the real thing will have. There’s also no AI traffic or pedestrians, due to where in GTA 5’s world the re-created map has been placed.
“Playing on this map will remind you how insane GTA 6 is gonna be”, the modder says, adding that they have put in a few details to make it feel a bit more Vice, such as unique signs, real-life Miami-inspired art installations, and some billboards inspired by the one trailer we’ve seen so far. Dark Space adds that their next goal is to add-in the docks area of the map seen in the background of a trailer one shot showing some speedboats.
If you want to try the mod, you’ll need to head to Dark Space’s Discord server. Are fan projects like this helping you get through the final strect of the wait for GTA 6? Let us know below!
