I see your official Oblivion remaster, and raise you Boblivion: a totally lore-friendly overhaul which aims to turn “literally every single thing in the base game to Bob”
Alright, so. It’s very much looking like today could finally be the day we get that long-rumoured Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster, given Bethesda’s got a whole stream planned. If nothing else, the whole leaky saga’s been a good catalyst for fans doing weird stuff with the original.
Enter Boblivion, a modder’s freshly-released attempt at overhauling the game in, er, a slightly different way to Virtuos Games. Can it be weirder than the Oblivion boomer shooter someone put together the other week? Well, it definitely looks just as trippy.
So, what’s this Boblivion mod do? Well, it takes the classic version of Oblivion and aims to change “literally every single thing in the base game to ‘Bob'”. As shown off in the shots on the mod’s page, that means a title screen that declares you’re firing up The Elder Scrolls IV: Boblivion, and gives you the options of ‘bob’, ‘bob’, ‘bob’, ‘bob’, ‘bob’, and ‘bob’.
Everything from items to spells, effects, locations, and menu/UI prompts look to have been re-christened ‘bob’. So, uh, good luck playing the game and navigating around Cyrodiil if everything about the original game isn’t permanently singed into your brain.
The mod’s creator, who goes by Assman3000 (because of course they do), writes that your chats with NPCs might have been rendered a bit more interesting, explaining: “This breaks dialogue though, because all races are now Bob. But you can still talk to people telepathically. Although, all they have to say is ‘Bob’.” Nice.
They also admit that they’ve not quite made absolutely everything Bob yet, writing: “When I figure out how to change the rest, I’ll probably update it along with all the DLC.” Plus, they add, it’s important to note that “if you are prompted to replace the original Oblivion IV logo video (the animation that plays at the start) or any other file, then please back up the original in a safe location on your computer first”.
Cool, always worth being safe when downloading a mod that pretty much breaks the game by design. Are you hoping the official Oblivion remaster turns out to have re-named every object in the game something wacky? Let us know below!
